Feeling nervous about the dentist is more common than most people think, and for some it's serious enough to put off treatment for years. IV conscious sedation keeps you awake while leaving you feeling remarkably at ease from start to finish. It's particularly helpful for anxious patients, anyone with a pronounced gag reflex, or those facing a longer or more complex procedure, and many patients find they remember very little of the appointment afterwards. There's a practical benefit too: because you're calm and settled, we can often get through considerably more treatment in one sitting than usual, reducing the number of separate visits required. Please note: IV conscious sedation is available only to patients aged 18 and above.

We plan your treatment thoroughly ahead of time so your sedation appointment is used as effectively as possible, often combining several procedures into one visit.

IV sedation
A fine cannula is placed into a vein in your hand or arm, delivering the sedative gradually. You'll feel calm and drowsy while staying conscious and able to follow instructions.

Recovery
Once treatment is finished, you'll rest in our recovery area before being discharged into the care of an accompanying adult. Someone will need to take you home and stay with you for the remainder of the day.

No. A responsible adult needs to take you home, and you should avoid driving, operating machinery, drinking alcohol or signing important paperwork until the following day.
