Overview — 001

Save your own tooth wherever we possibly can.

Root canal treatment involves clearing infected or inflamed tissue from inside the tooth, disinfecting the canals, then sealing them to guard against reinfection. We'll almost always aim to save your natural tooth rather than remove it, since an extraction leaves a gap that costs more to fix later with an implant, bridge or denture. A back tooth will usually need a crown afterwards to stop it fracturing under everyday chewing.

  • Saves teeth that might otherwise be extracted
  • Magnification and rubber dam for precision
  • Comfortable thanks to local anaesthetic
  • Same-day appointments available for severe pain
  • Typically 1–2 visits
  • A crown is usually recommended afterwards on back teeth
The process — 002

How it goes, step by step.

4 stages
  1. 01
    20–30 min

    Assessment & X-ray

We track down the source of the pain or infection and confirm root canal treatment is the right route.

  2. 02
    10 min

    Numb & isolate

Once you're numb, the tooth is isolated with a rubber dam to keep the area clean and dry throughout.

  3. 03
    60–90 min

    Clean & seal

Infected tissue is cleared from the canals, which are then disinfected, shaped and sealed.

  4. 04
    See crowns

    Crown (back teeth)

A crown is usually fitted afterwards on back teeth to guard against cracking under normal bite forces.

  • No — you'll be fully numbed throughout, and most patients describe it as feeling like a longer filling appointment.

  • We'll always try to save the tooth where possible. Extraction leaves a gap that's more expensive to fill later with an implant, bridge or denture.

  • Usually one to two visits of around 90 minutes each, with back teeth typically needing a crown fitted afterwards.

  • Front teeth are £550, premolars £700 and molars £850, with any crown billed separately afterwards.
